In 2025, inflation in road freight transport operating costs (excluding fuel) reached an annual average of +2.4 %, driven in particular by increases in driver-related costs (+2 % for wage costs), maintenance costs (+2.5 %) and fixed equipment costs (ownership and insurance: +4.3 %). Over the past two years, cumulative inflation in non-fuel costs has reached +7.7 %.
For 2026, the CNR forecasts non-fuel cost inflation of around +2.4 %. The predominant factor remains the cost of driving staff: +2.2 % on average annually for wages and related costs. Other items showing an increase include fixed equipment costs (ownership and insurance), which are forecast to rise by +3.5 %.
